The MEF-Munich Spring Rountable 2010 with the theme “The Global Green Agenda: Securing a Sustainable Future”, organised by the Malaysia Europe Forum (MEF) which was held at Munich, Germany from 2nd-3rd March is another manifestation of the interests which Europeans show in wanting to have trade ties on green technologies with Malaysian counter-parts.
This forum addressed issues pertaining to sustainable growth and the greening of business through three Rountable sessions featuring prominent speakers from the Malaysian business fratenity. On the invitation of YB Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, Patron and Advisor of the MEF, and coincide with my Ministry working visit to EU, I accepted MEF invitation to deliver the Keynote Address entitled “Collaborative Opportunities in Green Technology in Malaysia”.
Though the participation level was not hugh by comparison with some other trade forums, the emphasis was on green technologies of which Malaysia is a relatively newcomer. Still the keen interests of the participants were encouraging and will surely attract more in the future.
Malaysia intends to be amongst the leaders on green technologies in the ASEAN area at least. Malaysia looks to green technology as a new growth area for the economy and from the reactions ever since the Ministry was formed in April, 2009, this aspiration is certainly achievable.
For your information, Malaysia-Europe Forum (MEF), an independent, non-profit organization was established in 2007 to promote and bring about bilateral understanding between Malaysia and the EU. Through this platform, Malaysia and the EU have a continuing dialogue that focuses on a number of issues including trade agreements, sustainable business and the green agenda.
It is my fervent hope that with my personal involvement and support, this will help to enhance the MEF’s efforts in improving understanding and enhancing dialogue between Malaysia and Europe, particularly with regards to the Green Energy sector.
Thank you for the publication of your speech on your blog. We were truly honored to have you in Munich and we received lots of positive comments about yourself and also your speech and the subesquent Q&A sessions.

Dear Volker,
Thanks for the able conduct of the MEF Forum which went on smoothly and I must comment was a very positive start to further brand the event into something big and attractive. I will be prepared to support any efforts that will bring about more FDIs in the area of green technology into Malaysia. It has been a pleasure working with you. Cheers!
Thank you for always educating us how important a green earth mean to us and i just recently attended the green conference in Penang last weekend. A good talk by Matthias Gelber.
I totally agree with your speech in MEF especially “We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors. We borrow it from our children.” It is our responsibility to act now or our next generation will suffer but i do see a lot green movements in Malaysia recently.
Coincidentally, our chief engineer from Germany was one of the speaker for the Copenhagen Climate Change back in December last year. He talked about C02 reduction using biomass and algae bio photo reactor by turning C02 to 02.
We are a German- Malaysia green consultant company specializing in building algae bio photo reactor plant and biomass. Algae bio photo reactor is the latest green technologies revolution because it take C02 as the input and it produce 02, dry-mass and oil. Most importantly the plant tested and running in Europe. For more depth understanding of this green technologies, we would happily to do a full presentation to you. I support the vision of Malaysia become one of leader in green technology in Asean.
