I express my concern on the environmental impact an aluminium smelter would bring to the citizen of Miri, Bintulu or even Sarawak.
http://dayakbaru.com/weblog08/2008/07/27/the-effects-of-aluminium-smelting-plant-for-sarawak/
I would like to know what effort is done to minimise or reduce such impact as Sarawak is becoming a laughing stock from the world from destroying its forest for such effort.
Human race progress and develop needs energy. Producing large energy via hydro power needs to generate economic users for the access supply. Therefore, aluminium plant is hungry and they can pay for it. The revenue helps the state, govt to provide better services for the poeple. if use properly.
The west hadchopped of many of their forest hundred years ago, some places, you just can’t find any green. They exchange it with development, high end luxury living. all these , a price to pay for.
The by products must benefit the people first.
So what u saying that we MUST follow these westerner do and destroyed our part TOO?.. Must we follow these people and not even think twice?? They destroy it, and so we must destroy it too? I’m just wandering if we are back to the cave man era, when we can’t even differentiate bad or good and just pointing fingers.
No doubt, the smelter is a good money hole for some. But think of the long term effect on the environment, the people’s lung, the animals, the BIODIVERSITY.
Why can’t we adopt more greener technology in this state (Sarawak), where it is harshly abuse to provide for the country (Deforestation, Bakun Dam -Sized of Singapore, Palm plantation -sized of CANADA, proposed 12 dams, and many more unhealthy development)
For non-sarawakian – cool development
for sarawakians – Our land is abuse, our forest is cleared, our future generation cry
